BRAKE CONTROL MODULE SOFTWARE UPDATE ON 2015 THROUGH 2017 MODEL YEAR LEXUS NX200t, RX350 AND LS500h

Presented defect: The vehicles involved are equipped with a low-pressure fuel pump, located in the fuel tank. Toyota has identified that, due to certain inadequate production conditions, the impeller present in the fuel pump may show surface cracks, resulting in increased deformation. This deformation can create enough interference with the fuel pump body to render it inoperable.

Risks and implications: If this happens, the engine warning light may turn on and occurs the engine malfunction. In rare cases, the vehicle can stall completely while driving in high speeds, increasing the risk of an accident, with material damage to the vehicle and serious or even fatal injuries to its occupants.

Corrective measures: Starting from October 26th 2020, Toyota and Lexus dealers will replace the fuel pump of the vehicles involved..

Toyota clarifies that the present campaign will be carried out free of charge to the consumer.

BACK DOOR STAYS REPLACEMENT ON LEXUS CT200h

Presented defect: The subject vehicle is equipped with gas charged back door dampers stays which are used to help lift and support the back door while it is in the open position. Due to an improper temperature used during the plating process for coating the surface of the damper rod, there is a possibility that the internal stress generated during the plating process may cause micro cracks to develop on the plating of the damper rod. 

Risk and implications: These micro cracks on the plating of the damper rod can allow the gas charged in the damper stay to leak through cracks when the rod is in an upward position. If a sufficient amount of gas leaks, the damper stays may not keep the back door open, causing the risk of injuries.

Corrective measures: Starting from November 14th 2019, Lexus dealers will inspect the back door dumper stays installed in the vehicle (right and left sides) to identify the possibility of defect. If the defect be confirmed in any dumper, the affected part will be replaced by a new one. The remedy will be performed at no cost to vehicle owner. The time of inspection and repair is about 1 (one) hour.

RUN FLAT TIRES REPLACEMENT ON LEXUS LS 500h

Presented defect: The subject vehicles are equipped with run-flat tires with a sidewall reinforcement layer inside the tire sidewall, which aims to allow the continuation of driving for a certain distance at a given speed even if the air pressure reduces to zero through a puncture or other means. Due to an improper tire to wheel assembly process, there is a possibility that a crack could develop on the sidewall reinforcement layer and it could expand over time. In addition, tire deflection could become larger than usual, causing the temperature of the tire to increase. 

Risk and implications: This crack on sidewall reinforcement can cause an abnormal noise and vibration. Under certain driving conditions, such as highway driving with low tire pressure, Toyota has identified the possibility that portions of the tire tread layer could separate, causing a reduction of vehicle stability and increasing the risk of a crash.

Corrective measures: Starting from April, 1st 2019, Lexus dealers will replace the 4 (four) Run Flat tires by new ones. The remedy will be performed at no cost to vehicle owners The LS500h model is equipped with an electronic tire pressure warning system, which detects the low inflation pressure of each tire and alert through a warning light on multifunction display. If this warning light turn on before the Campaign starting date, the owners should take the vehicle to a Lexus dealer for inspection and, if necessary, temporary replacement of the wheel and tire with low pressure.

Fuel tank replacement on CT200h

Presented defect: There is a possibility that the resin weld between the fuel tank and the fuel inlet pipe may be insufficient.

Risks and implications: In this condition, there is a risk of fuel leak and a fuel odor. In the presence of an ignition source, a fuel leak could increase the risk of a fire, that could cause material damage and several injuries or death for vehicles occupants.

Corrective measures: Starting from January, 22nd 2018, Lexus dealers will replace the fuel tank with a new one. The remedy will be performed at NO COST to vehicle owners. Replacing the fuel tank with a new one will take approximately 3.5 hours (depending on the vehicle).

Presented defect: Due to a malfunction in the mounting process of supplier, it is possible that a malfunction occur in the ABS actuator, a component responsible for controlling the anti-lock brake system, drivetrain and vehicle stability control system, thus increasing the collision risk.

Risks and implications: In the event of lost of vehicle stability control, the collision possibillity will increase, which may lead to material damage and fatal or severe injuries to the vehicle occupants and/or third parties.

Corrective measures: From 06/08/2015, Toyota will promote the inspection and, if needed, ABS actuator replacement for the affected vehicles.
